Equipment

  • 1 Citrus Juicer For extracting juice from the oranges.
  • 1 Strainer To remove pulp and seeds for a smoother juice.
  • 1 Pitcher To collect and serve the juice.

Ingredients

Fresh Blood Oranges

  • 4-6 medium-sized Blood Oranges Look for firm and heavy oranges for juiciness.
  • 1 teaspoon Natural Sweetener (Optional) Agave syrup, honey, or maple syrup to taste.

Filtered Water (Optional)

  • 1 splash Filtered Water To dilute the juice if desired.
  • as needed Ice Cubes (Optional) For serving chilled.

Instructions

Gather Your Ingredients

  • Start with 4-6 ripe blood oranges. Look for ones that are firm and heavy for their size. Additionally, you may want a natural sweetener like honey or agave, and some filtered water if you prefer a lighter juice.

Prepare Your Tools

  • You’ll need a citrus juicer or a manual squeezer. A strainer is also helpful for achieving a smooth texture. Lastly, have a pitcher ready to collect your juice.

Wash the Oranges

  • Rinse the blood oranges under cool water. This step is crucial, as it removes any dirt or residues. After that, dry them with a clean towel.

Cut the Oranges

  • Slice each blood orange in half. If you want to maximize juice extraction, cut them crosswise rather than lengthwise.

Juice the Oranges

  • Use your juicer to extract the juice from each half. If you’re using a manual squeezer, press down firmly to get every last drop. Remember, the juicing process can be messy, so do it over a bowl or directly into your pitcher.

Strain the Juice

  • Pour the juice through a strainer into your pitcher. This step helps remove any pulp or seeds, resulting in a smoother drink. If you enjoy pulp, you can skip this step.

Taste and Adjust

  • Give your juice a taste. If it’s too tart for your liking, add a bit of honey or agave to sweeten it. Stir well to combine.

Chill and Serve

  • For the best experience, chill your blood orange juice in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. Serve it over ice cubes for a refreshing drink. Enjoy it as is, or mix it into cocktails or smoothies!
