Ingredients
  

Meat

  • 1 pound Ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)

Vegetables

  • 1 medium Onion Finely chopped.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced.
  • 1 cup Diced carrots (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 cup Frozen peas For a pop of color and sweetness.

Potatoes

  • 2 cups Mashed potatoes (homemade or store-bought)

Cheese

  • 1 cup Shredded cheddar cheese The star of the show.

Seasonings

  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil For sautéing.
  • 1 cup Beef broth (or vegetable broth for a vegetarian twist)
  • 1 teaspoon Dried thyme To enhance the savory notes.

Salt and pepper

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Mashed Potatoes

  • Boil peeled potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and mash, adding butter and milk for creaminess.

Cook Filling

  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and garlic, sauté until fragrant. Add ground beef and cook until browned.

Add Vegetables

  • Stir in diced carrots and frozen peas. Cook for another 5 minutes.

Seasoning

  • Sprinkle in dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

Combine with Broth

  • Pour in beef broth and let it simmer for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened.

Layer Filling

  • Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.

Add Mashed Potatoes

  • Spoon the mashed potatoes over the filling, spreading them evenly.

Top with Cheese

  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes.

Bake

  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Rest and Serve

  • Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
